My French Lavender

Looking good
I love lavender. There is something so romantic about fields of lavender. I love putting the fresh blooms in an organza bag and putting it in my underwear draw. However I only have one plant so far and don't want to pick the flowers yet.
I love the 1950's cement pot
I 'rescued' this cement pot along with a couple more from the house across the road when it was being demolished. I love the look of them.

Flowers

Little white roses
These roses look so nice in this spot.
Yellow roses
I love the way the florist presented these roses in the glass bowl. The striped leaf covers the stems.

Belated Bastille Day

We have a tradition in our office that we eat 'cake' on Bastille Day. As we are almost always on some kind of diet/health kick this day is our only exception.

Our Weather Vane

I bought this weather vane about 8 years ago. As soon as we moved to this house, I just knew I wanted an old fashioned rooster weather vane for the garage roof.
After searching for 2 years I finally found this one in Paddington. The next trick was to install it on the roof. It didn't come with any attachments. Just the rooster on a stick so to speak.
The perfect spot
I had to get an engineer friend to design and make a clamp affair thing to screw into the roof joists, after lifting some roof tiles. It had a hollow tube attached that the stick (actually an iron pipe affair) could just slide into. The next trick was to find 'somebody' to actually do it.

Go old pushing 80 Years Nev was the only one who worked out how to do it.
So worth it
I just love watching the rooster spin in the wind.

Botanical Gardens July 2011

I took a different path in the gardens on todays walk. There are so many lovely paths and sunny spots to sit and eat lunch.

Planted gardens will be ready for spring
I have no idea what this is
I couldn't find a name plaque for this tree.

It was lovely walking in the sun, but a bit chilly in the shade.

Flowers in the Queen Street Mall

The local council gardeners do a great job of introducing colour into the raised garden beds in the Mall.
I love the colour contrast here

Today's walk - across the Kurilpa Bridge

The weather was lovely today so I headed down George Street to walk across the Kurilpa walk bridge.
The start
I love the ship's mast idea

On my list of things to do this month
I walked past Goma, and watched all of the children with parents having picnic's on the lawns.

Markets
I walked back across the Victoria Bridge then through the Wednesday markets back to my office. A lovely 40 minute walk.

Croque Monsuir

Delicious
I have eaten this fabulous breakfast/lunch sandwich in Paris and was keen to make it at home. After researching many recipes - I finally found one I really liked. This is just delicious.
The best thing is that I have realised that not only can the cheese mixture be made in advanced, but the whole sandwich can be assembled and put in the refrigerator the night before. just take it out an pop it in the oven. With a fried egg on top it is called Croque Madame.
Just mix creme fraice, grated gruyere cheese and Dijon mustard. Spread it on one piece of bread then slices of thinly shaved leg ham. Top with a second slice of bread and spread cheese mixture on top. Put in the oven until toasty and grilled on top.
